Research has shown personalised emails double response rates. But personalising emails is time-consuming as hell. No SDR can send enough fully personalised emails in a day to make it worthwhile.

So what’s an SDR to do?

Well, ours game the system by batching research and, whisper it quietly, using a template.

Yes, we template personalised emails. Here’s why: with the right template, you can send dozens of highly personalised emails a day without it looking like you’re using a template at all.

And in this post, we’re going to show you how.

4 Steps to the Perfect Personalised Template

Every personalised template our SDRs use has a few things in common:

  1. They’re short. Our cold emails are rarely longer than five or      six sentences and only the first couple of lines are ever                personalised.
  2. Personalisation is highly relevant and usually funny.
  3. The subject line is always catchy and always personalised
  4. There’s never a hard sell

No two reps use the same template, either. Each SDR creates their own template based on personal experience. So even though we are using templates, each of the templates has been tested on a specific market and a specific type of prospect. Unlike the templates you find online, we know they will be effective

How James Donellan Creates Personalised Cold Email Templates

Okay, you want to see what this looks like in practice. Here are two examples from James Donellan.

See if you spot the theme in his personalisation efforts.

If you received one of these emails from James, there’s no way you’d know he’d used a template. But in doing so he was able to send XX personalised emails a day.
